Recruiting 2.0 is here, and we want to celebrate with all of you!
Come Recommended is excited to officially announce our newest service: GoodieRecruit! GoodieRecruit brings employers, candidates and nonprofits together in a way never experienced before. We partner with nonprofits to host “experiences” where candidates will perform tasks that will be typical of the job for which they are applying. The experiences are taped and each candidate is rated on their performance. This information is then given to the hiring organization with recommendations for final interviews. You may read more about the recruiting process on our Web site.
Come Recommended will be hosting the Goodie Recruit launch party on February 4, 2010 (Thursday) at Busboys & Poets in Washington, D.C. from 6-8pm. All local DC communicators and entry-level job seekers are invited to attend. You can sign up for your free ticket here! We’re even going to be giving out awesome Goodie Bags with the latest books from Heather Huhman, Lisa Orrell and Alexandra Levit!
If you’re not located in the D.C. area, you can tune into our live broadcast. We’ll be dishing out details to that in the coming weeks, so stay tuned, and feel free to connect with GoodieRecruit on Twitter for great career advice.
We have to give a special thank you to our sponsor, Capitol Communicator for their support. Capitol Communicator brings together over 10,000 communicators in the mid-Atlantic region with news, trends, education, networking opportunities and more.
For last-minute sponsorship opportunities please e-mail heather.huhman@goodierecruit.com. For media requests please e-mail kristina.allen@goodierecruit.com.

Introducing the first in what will hopefully be a long series of Come Recommended-produced e-books, Relocating for an Entry-Level Job: Why You Probably Have to & How to Do It.
The regular cost is $19.99. However, through 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time on Saturday, January 16, 2010, you can download it for only $14.99 using the code ‘25OFF‘. Considering the 40+ hours spent researching it, it’s well worth the price! (If you don’t see the Add to Cart button below, click on the cover image to the left.)
To view the table of contents and introduction for free, click here.
In addition to a $5 off coupon for the next e-book we produce (a new one will be produced approximately every six weeks), purchasing this e-book today will guarantee you a copy of any future revisions. So, if a month from now there’s new information, you’ll receive an e-mail with the updated copy–for free!

Praise & Reviews
“In this current economic climate it’s not unusual for people from ANY generation to pursue job offers that require relocation. And Heather R. Huhman, founder and president of ComeRecommended.com (a popular job and career site for college students and entry-level job seekers), has written a terrific ebook for Millennials (Gen Y) on the ins and outs of relocating successfully for a job…I highly respect Heather and think her new ebook is something many will find very beneficial.” — Lisa Orrell, The Generation Relations Expert
“It’s too hot. It’s too cold. It’s too long of a commute. I need to be close to my boyfriend or girlfriend. I don’t like packing and unpacking. Just some of the many reasons I’ve heard undergrads and other entry-level job seekers give as to why they won’t relocate. And by doing so, it will come as no surprise, they drastically limit their options and chances for success. Heather Huhman’s new e-book, Relocating for an Entry-Level Job: Why You Probably Have to & How to Do It, provides a compelling case for why it could be in your best interest to move to find work and the tools you’ll need to land on your feet in a new city.” — Shawn Graham, Courting Your Career
“Heather Huhman’s exploration of the necessity and ability to relocate for an entry-level job is both interesting and insightful. Heather provides market, job and salary information for leading cities throughout the country and an easy-to-understand explanation regarding the relocation process complete with many links to help facilitate a move and job search. This is a must-read for recent grads exploring work in other cities!” — Debra Wheatman, CareersDoneWrite
“…while free rent in your parents basement can be alluring, closing yourself off to relocation could be trading long-term career growth and income for short-term convenience. This is why it’s a great time for a new e-book from Entry Level Career Expert Heather Huhman. Heather has turned her experiences from her own frenzied relocation post-college to her extensive experience in the work world and mentoring other young professionals into a great resource. Relocating [for an Entry Level Job: Why You Probably Have to and How to Do It] is a great high-level step-by-step guide to developing your career prospects in another city. From insight on choosing metropolitan areas to target, to the logistics of planning a move, to negotiating relocation reimbursement with your new employer, to a top 20 guide of cities to consider, the book provides a great perspective for those who haven’t previously considered the myriad aspects of relocation.” – Kristi Daeda, Career Adventure

Over the next few months there will be some changes to Come Recommended’s look and functionality. The new design will have the same capabilities as before-video chat, real-time instant messaging, and portfolio samples-but will also include some new features to make it more interactive and further enable networking. Some new features include:
- Private messaging: Come Recommended members can send messages to people with whom they have connected. This works like internal site e-mail and will give candidates and employers further opportunity to network. This feature will be a more comprehensive version of what is currently available on Come Recommended. Members may also send messages to multiple members and receive site-wide messages from administrators.
- Groups: Come Recommended members can create groups for multiple members to engage in conversation and forum discussions and in the future will be able to post any sort of content, including blog posts and links.
- User-generated blogs: Members will be able to create their own blogs. This enables candidates to show off their best work to employers and employers to facilitate conversation and generate ideas for candidates to comment on.
- Blog tracking: The blog tracking component will gather all blogs, blog posts and comments that members have made. This means other members can easily find all blogs that a member belongs to as well as their recent posts and comments.
- The wire: Members will be able to interact by posting short messages on one another’s profiles and on group profiles.
Stay tuned for these exciting changes-and more!

Visual Connect, Come Recommended’s affordable option for interviewing out-of-town applicants, will now be offered for $25 to members making interview requests. The cost of covering applicants’ traveling expenses can add up, and Come Recommended is committed to providing easy access for both employers and candidates to extend their reach beyond their local areas.
Using Visual Connect, employers or candidates can schedule an interview and receive a secured link to their video chat that automatically syncs the members’ webcams and microphones and gives instructions for beginning the video chat.
While Visual Connect is most often be initiated by employers, we also encourage candidates to request informational interviews via this new tool.
In conjunction, Logitech, a world leader in Internet communications, is proud to offer registered members of Come Recommended an exclusive 15 percent discount on some their best webcam equipment.
As a special thanks for taking advantage of Come Recommended’s services, employers and candidates can save a little change and boost their online experience with Logitech’s Pro9000, C600, and C500 webcams until June 2010.
Starting today, Come Recommended will also be giving away Logitech webcams to the first two employers and two candidates who sign-up for Visual Connect. After recently introducing our “We Want Jobs, Not Trophies” campaign, a grassroots effort conducted via town hall meetings in major cities nationwide, we want to extend the opportunity to become involved and join the conversation. Maybe you want to fight the stigma of the Millennials, but don’t hail from a major city. Or perhaps your campus can’t commit to hosting a town hall meeting. How else can you join the cause?
We’ve come up with a few ways:
1. Serve as one of our campus ambassadors: Get the word out on your campus by joining Come Recommended as a campus ambassador. Reach out to different student organizations and/or business owners in your community and have an open, honest discussion about Millennials in the workplace. You can start great conversations and network at the same time!
2. Get writing: Write an article, tweet or blog about the campaign. Share your thoughts and personal anecdotes with Come Recommended and your community. We want to hear more from the students who are experiencing this problem in their internship/job searches.
3. Invite speakers: Hold your own forum! Invite speakers who you are interested in from various industries and get their take on entry-level careers and internships and the way to be the most attractive job applicant. It will give you an idea of what people are looking for today and give other Millennials the opportunity to ask questions.
4. Take it online: Whether it’s simply adding our Twibbon to your avatar or hosting a weekly #jobsnottrophies chat, Twitter is an excellent venue for spreading the word without too much time or effort involved.
5. Team up: Are there several universities/colleges in your area? Team up to share the responsibilities of hosting a town hall or other event, such as a TweetUp.
If you want to join the campaign you can start small or go big, because this is your cause. Generation Y has the tools to be an excellent resource in any industry. Remember: Generation Y isn’t looking for accolades, just jobs.
To learn more about being a participant in the “We Want Jobs, Not Trophies” campaign, visit www.comerecommended.com/jobsnottrophies or send an e-mail to notrophies@comerecommended.com.
